The Beach Residence was designed as a vacation home for a world-renowned landscape photographer.  Driving the design was the client's desire for a rooftop pool and spa in which to relax, swim, and check out the local surf conditions.  A relatively thin post-tensioned concrete slab and steel structural system was selected in order to accommodate the weight and depth of the pool while allowing the overall height of the three-story building to stay below the thirty foot maximum height limit imposed by the zoning.  A series of stacked decks at the southwest corner of the home provides prime viewing locations for sunsets, waves, and boardwalk activity.  Muted interior finishes of concrete and glass provide a neutral backdrop against which the vibrant colors of the artist's work can pop.
