LONDON OFFICE BUILDING
London, England
Office Building, New Construction (unbuilt)
659,000 s.f., 11 stories
The site for the London Office Building was challenging, due the presence of train tracks on site and their associated air rights. Through decades of design work and negotiation, a solution was arrived upon which utilized an elevated concrete raft foundation system which spanned across the tracks. This structural system allowed the trains to remain operational while providing a solid foundation on which to build the new structure. Multiple custom aluminum and glass curtain wall systems were designed and detailed to provide exterior shading and to emphasize the horizontal and vertical elements throughout the building. Two large floor plates, approximately 80,000 s.f. in size, were incorporated in order to accommodate traders. A large atrium space was carved out in the center of the building to provide natural light to the inboard lease spaces and to provide circulation between the various floors and offices. Visitors and employees entered the building through an all-glass curtain wall system into a multi-story lobby that featured a large stainless steel reception desk located in front of a backlit alabaster feature wall.
