By building out this 3rd floor suite, Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. was looking to not only expand their San Diego offices, but to also provide amenities that could be used by the company as a whole. The design incorporates a large Lunch Room, Training Room, Board Room, and multiple small conference rooms to achieve this goal.
The geometry of the existing building, including a large radiused corner and an overall obtuse angle, made space planning challenging. Our solution was to locate the Lunch Room, which has a flexible layout, and the Training Room, which lends itself to a radial organization, in the curved corner of the building. Seating along the windows in the Lunch Room allows employees to enjoy the views.
Since Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. was occupying the entire floor, we were able to remove most of the interior partitions that had previously subdivided the floor into separate suites for different tenants. This expanded the views across the building and maximized daylighting for all employees. Frameless glass storefronts on both sides of the interior conference rooms enhance visual connections. The black and white color palette provides a crisp and modern backdrop for graphic wallcoverings, accent lighting, and colorful furniture.
